You Already Know What's Wrong.

Every day brings another constitutional crisis.

Another attack on democracy.

Another assault on vulnerable communities.

Another reason to feel overwhelmed.

You've donated.

You've volunteered.

You've marched.

You've called your representatives.

You've signed petitions.

You've stayed informed.

And yet, it still feels like you're watching history happen instead of helping to shape it.

You don't need more outrage, and you don't need another headline.

You need to know where your experience, relationships, skills, and leadership are best served to change the present and the future, and a roadmap to get there.

You need a plan to cultivate social justice that actually bends the arc.

That's what The Ripple Effect Institute is here to give you.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT INSTITUTE

Strategic Action
Changes Everything.

Most people think the opposite of hopelessness is optimism.

It isn't.

It's taking clear, strategic action in furtherance of justice.

The moment you know exactly where you can make a difference, everything changes. The news feels different, politics feel different, your own life feels different—because you stop consuming current events, and start shaping them.

And over time, something remarkable happens.

Purpose stops feeling abstract.
Meaning stops feeling distant.

You begin building a life you'll be proud to look back on—and a legacy of real social justice that will impact lives far into the future.

WHAT MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTION LOOKS LIKE

Real people. Real initiatives.

01

IMMIGRATION DEFENSE

One member found renewed purpose after a profound personal loss by helping organize opposition to a proposed ICE detention facility in his city.

02

CLIMATE RESILIENCE

Another discovered a meaningful outlet for her leadership skills through water conservation and climate resilience work in her coastal community.

03

HOUSING

Another transformed unused land into a housing initiative that supports disabled and economically vulnerable members of her community.

04

LGBTQ + RIGHTS

Another founded a nonprofit dedicated to supporting trans people after her trans daughter was forced to leave the United States out of concern for her safety and future.

05

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Another left a nonprofit that had drifted from its mission and launched a new arts-based initiative that now creates opportunities for civic engagement and activism in the rural Midwest.

None of these people joined REI because they just wanted to become activists.

They joined because they wanted their lives to mean something and make a real difference in the lives of others.

Their activism, organizing, leadership, and community-building became the vehicle through which they arrived there.

  • "Thanks to this community and the materials, I’ve been able to come up with great narratives to describe what our non-profit is doing. I’ve developed the skills to build our work and tell our story well."

    —David

  • "With the help of the group, and a lot of encouragement from Elizabeth, I gained confidence and have come to enjoy talking about the importance of what we've created. ONE DAY, YOU’LL LOOK BACK ON THIS CHAPTER

Years from now, you won't remember every headline.

You won't remember every political crisis.

But you will remember what you chose to do in response– whether you stayed overwhelmed and frozen, or whether you discovered the path to put your unique gifts to work in furtherance of making a real difference.

Action is the antidote to despair.

Action changes lives.

And not only the lives of the people you will help, but your own life as well.

If you're ready to stop asking, "What can I do?"

And start building the answer...
